The course covers both theoretical and practical elements relevant to current practice in the fashion industry and a variety of fashion retail related subjects providing you with a choice of pathways. Your inclusive 3 week work placement will give you real life hands on experience of Fashion Retail to reinforce what you have learnt and put it into practice.

All students share a common desire to develop existing knowledge of fashion to a more complex level, covering the retail process from head office to shop floor and will be introduced to a wide range of retail topics delivered by lecturers with specialist expertise.

You will be invited to attend a range of masterclasses from a variety of senior fashion retail executives such as Carline Springett from Jaeger, Belinda Earl from Marks and Spencer, David Walker-Smith of Fenwick and Hilary Riva, formerly of the British Fashion Council. During these sessions held in our state of the art lecture theatre, fashion retail experts advise and inform about a range of subjects affecting the industry with an interactive Q&A session at the end to enable students to have their say.

A typical day may include planning a retailer range, creating a website for a high street store and visiting flagship stores to collect photographic research to put together a diffusion line for a major brand. Alternatively you could be working on window scheme or developing a social media marketing strategy for a mock brand.

This course includes a three week work placement at a High Street brand or agency aimed at developing on the job skills to enable graduates to go straight into the workplace with unrivalled hands on experience.

Projects are set by one of our industry partners and could include creating a marketing campaign for a new product launch, developing a celebrity based range plan, designing a new store concept or writing a business plan for a new brand launch.

This course is ideal for anyone wishing to complete a level 3 course over the spring and summer in time to start a more specialist level 4 course in September. It would also suit people wishing to continue education with a desire to develop a career in fashion retail and go straight on to a job role.

Annabella Sharpe, Graduated 2015.

"The FRA has offered me opportunities to expand my knowledge of the fashion industry. It allowed me to gain advice from some of the best. Not only was I able to attend a master class from Richard Storer - the Global head of PR at Topshop; but I was then given the opportunity to apply for one of the most incredible first jobs doing an internship at Arcadia. With the help of my lecturers who had all the industry experience and exposure, alongside some determination, it just went to show that I could achieve something in which I never would have dreamed possible without the help and support of FRA. My advice for future students is to definitely grasp all the experiences the college has to offer and you always get out what you put in. Work hard, get job placements onto your CV and you can be on the road to an unimaginable career."
