L4 Fashion Retail (Marketing and Business)

This one year course explores all of the internal and external factors influencing today's fashion retailers and offers an overview of store operations including Ecommerce, Retail Analytics, Digital skills, Buying, Merchandising and Visual Merchandising. The programme encompasses the product life cycle from conception through to shop floor.


Includes consumer profiling, identifying target markets and developing a business strategy in order launch your own small business.

The key aspect of the course is to enable students to become industry aware and prepared for multiple areas within the retail environment. This course allows you to explore the roles available to you, and to understand why and how different types of retailers run their businesses.

You will cover multiple subjects influencing today’s fashion retail head office including marketing & promotion, consumer profiling, HR, finance, digital presentation, management skills and running a business. You will also look at topics impacting the retail environment such as visual merchandising and customer service giving you all round retail experience to progress multiple career options.

You will be invited to attend a range of masterclasses from some of retails biggest names. Previous speakers have included ASOS; Chloe Miles – Fashion Blogger; Zalando; FRA Alumni Sorcha Kelly, Junior Merchandiser - Accessories at NET-A-PORTER; TK Maxx & New Look. During these sessions held in our state of the art lecture theatre, fashion retail experts advise and inform about a range of subjects affecting the industry with an interactive Q&A session at the end to enable students to have their say.

This course includes an exclusive project set by a well known industry company or brand. Previous L4 Fashion Retail students have worked with Experian on an industry project to match a retailer to one of the ’Experian’ consumer profiles, learning to understand the varying marketing, sales and promotional approaches adopted for different types of consumer.

On another industry project students were asked by M&S to promote and merchandise the ‘Heritage’ jacket designed by L4 Garment Technology students.

A standard day on this course could include a trip to down Oxford Street to experience cutting edge retail including store tours to introduce and inspire you to a fashion retail environment. During your trip you will explore the competitive mix, store layout & design, promotional activity and consumer profile to collect information for a business project.

This course includes a three week internship at a high street brand aimed at developing on the job skills to enable graduates to go straight into the workplace with unrivalled hands on experience.

Graduates from this course have a wide range of opportunities within the fashion retail sector including Ecommerce, Marketing, PR, Merchandising, Buying, Allocators, Management Roles and running your own business.

 

Awarding Body: University Arts London

Age Requirement: 18+

Start date: Week commencing 11th September 2017 *Induction will commence from the 4th of September 2017.

Course duration: One year, two days a week

Entry Criteria:  1 A-Level or the equivalent grade C or above and 5 GCSE’s grade 4/5-9 including Maths and English or 5 GCSE's A*-C grade including Maths and English, or a BTEC National Diploma or NVQ level 3, or a one year foundation diploma in Art and Design plus 5 GCSE’s grade 4/5-9 including Maths and English or 5 GCSE's A*-C grade including Maths and English. Please provide us with a NARIC Statement of Comparability, if you have any non-UK qualifications. We will not be able to process your application without this information.

Applicant Guidance:  To be retail industry aware and to have an interest in fashion, promotion and marketing.

Fees: If you are 16-18 as of 31st August in the academic year of which your course starts and are a UK resident you will be eligible for full fee remission and do not have to pay any tuition fees.
