World Retail Congress - Future Retail Challenge 2017 Winners!
The Future Retail Challenge is a student competition that has become an established part of the World Retail Congress. FRA’s Level 4 Buying students Jourdain Grover, Meighan Good, Olivia Jones and Evie Klein attended this year to present their concept to the judges and went on to win the challenge!
The Fashion Retail Academy competed against:
Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
Manipal University, Dubai
Faculty of Economics, University of Porto, Portugal
NY Institute of Technology, Abu Dhabi
The 2017 Challenge:
The students were asked to select a “pureplay” retailer that has been successful in their country and which currently has no physical stores. They prepared and developed a launch plan which reflects the brand and the positioning of the business. The judges looked at the following:
- How well you establish and market the expanded Bricks and Mortar store and how it interfaces with the online offer.
- How well your plan is thought out
- How you secured the site
- How you selected the Pure-play operator to work with
- How well your offer shows differentiation
- How your business case stacks up financially
- How you plan to build a profitable and sustainable business
- The quality and customer friendliness of the Pop up pod
Overview of the FRA concept:
Our buying students chose Pretty Little Thing and their launch plan reflected getting ready to go out with friends. Girls would go into the Pretty Little Thing store to buy their outfits and then go on to get their hair and make-up done on another floor, it would include a VIP area and a drinks bar where they could go after being dressed and pampered.
Inside the the fitting rooms there would be a red-carpet with a 360 camera so they could see their whole outfit and look, they would then be able to feature these images on social media
