28th March 2025

At the Fashion Retail Academy, we give our students real-world learning experiences. Recently, our first-year Level 3 Fashion Design students had the opportunity to visit Raeburn Studio at LAB E20 in Stratford for an inspiring masterclass on sustainability, led by Christopher Raeburn, the brand's Creative Director and Fashion Designer.

What is Raeburn?

Founded in 2008 by Christopher, Raeburn is a British fashion brand known for its commitment to sustainability. The brand focuses on reworking surplus fabrics and garments to create innovative, stylish and functional pieces. They apply their core philosophy, "Remade, Reduced, Recycled", to menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories.

What Did the Masterclass Involve?

Christopher Raeburn shared his expertise on sustainable fashion design, breaking down how Raeburn transforms materials through its remake, reduce and recycle approach. Students got an inside look at the brand's design process, sustainable practices, and some of its most notable projects.

How Does RAEBURN Work?

The creative process changes depending on the brief. Brands often turn to Raeburn for innovative solutions, whether that's addressing inventory issues or bringing fresh ideas for new materials. The forward-thinking approach has led to him working with brands like Napapijri, the Victoria and Albert Museum and Moncler. Raeburn and his team are always on the lookout for new materials to bring fresh ideas to life.

Hear from the Creative Director himself:

What Was the Experience Like for FRA Students?

Raeburn praised our students for their curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the session. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged with the ideas presented, and explored how they could apply these concepts to their own work.

I'm really proud that we've been building a fantastic relationship with the Fashion Retail Academy! Christopher Raeburn, Creative Director and Fashion Designer at Raeburn

Why This Masterclass Matters

Sustainability is a key focus in the fashion industry, and it's important for students to learn about new materials, processes and ideas that will shape the future. With Raeburn's experience, this session gave students valuable insight into how sustainability plays a role in modern fashion design.
