Postgraduate MA International Fashion Marketing & Communications

This one-year practical and theoretical masters course will allow you to develop your creative and strategic skills in global marketing and communications. 

You'll combine the core marketing and communications skills to build a comprehensive portfolio of knowledge which is at the centre of the fast-evolving fashion industry.  

Our comprehensive global fashion marketing postgraduate degree has an emphasis on creativity and design outputs which are supported by investigations into the creative industries, reflecting how global brands need creative thinkers to communicate their visions, through practices such as social media, digital technologies and advertising. You’ll gain an understanding of the marketing communication channels and tools that underpin the development of integrated marketing strategies, and link theoretical and practical principles of international marketing communications to the managerial contexts likely to be faced in industry.

You’ll learn how to develop brand campaigns and understand the global brand market (predominantly the luxury sector and their strategies). You’ll learn about the history and evolution of advertising, the established infrastructure of the industry, and how it may develop with new strategies and technologies. You’ll finish the course by completing a final project to demonstrate your knowledge, which can take the form of a creative artefact, dissertation, report with analysis or business plan. You'll also understand the role of marketing communications from a management and strategy perspective, as well as the interrelationship between client and agency.

You’ll complete 5 modules, totalling 180 credits. 

Global Marketing Planning & Strategy (30 Credits): Gain a deep insight into international marketing environments through the wider framework of the global market. Examine case studies of global brands, explore the luxury sector and their strategies, and learn how to identify opportunities and threats during the planning and implementation of global strategies. You’ll work with a global brand on a live project and present your marketing plan and strategy to them. Learn how to collect and interpret international data and marketing information.

Marketing Design & Communication (30 Credits): Investigate the strategic business element of a global brand and incorporate creative marketing ideas and campaigns to achieve specific business objectives and launch brand communications strategies. Understand communication theory and how it applies to the development of international marketing communication campaigns.

Creative Development Strategy & Process (30 Credits): Explore the creative development process that most creative agencies engage in. Learn how to identify marketing goals and design strategic plans to achieve them, as well as how to create content that reflects the company’s values, engages customers, and solves problems. Distinguish through briefs the main non-personal marketing communication tools of advertising, public relations, sales and direct marketing.

Advertising Management (30 Credits): Delve into retrospective and introspective industry practices and the anatomy of the global advertising agency, the clients and the concepts of advertising. Explore the role brands play and the current challenges facing advertising revenue in the fashion industry and learn how to identify important issues and develop an understanding of advertising management. 

Final Project (Part 1 and Part 2) (60 Credits): This is the culmination of your postgraduate degree and is divided into two parts: a research proposal and a final project. Complete an in-depth investigation and approach a real problem in your specialist area, developing a strategy and implementation plan. The outcome can be: an artefact (advertising campaign, fashion PR or marketing event), dissertation, report with analysis or business plan. 

We work with over 250 brands at the FRA. Each of our degree courses includes practical, industry-focused content taught by some of fashion’s biggest names to give you valuable skills and work experience.

During your course, you’ll develop a strong professional network that will support you throughout your career. You’ll network with industry guest speakers, take part in masterclasses and attend panel discussions.

Our international marketing and communications masters degree programme has been exclusively developed in partnership with Falmouth University.

All our undergraduate courses are taught at our Central London campus by our team of leading academics and industry professionals. Throughout your studies, you will be part of Falmouth University's Student Union and have access to their library facilities alongside our own. Once you have graduated your degree, you will be awarded by Falmouth University at a Fashion Retail Academy graduation ceremony.

The Fashion Retail Academy is located at our new campus at Electra House near Liverpool Street, central London. 

The listed building has undergone a £50 million refurbishment to give our students the facilities and spaces they need. Liverpool Street has excellent transport links to the rest of London and beyond, and Electra House is situated directly across from Moorgate tube station.
