Overview
On this course, taught at the Fashion Retail Academy campus, you’ll explore the sampling process (including preparing specifications, fitting garments and sealing samples) as well as the close relationship between the designer, buyer and manufacturer, and how the garment technologist fits into this process.
You’ll understand garment construction, fitting, measuring and altering garments, and discover how garments are amended during production and how to communicate these changes to manufacturers and suppliers.
You’ll learn about specification drawings, initial samples and the alterations and developments required to ensure the final product is perfect. You’ll also visit a factory in north London, to see production in action.
By the end of the course, you’ll have developed an understanding of the production process and how to ensure garments are fit for purpose.
TUTOR
Sian Bladen-Hill has 35 years of experience working for brands including M&S and Disney. She has designed and developed products including womenswear, childrenswear and menswear, and is passionate about creating garments, concept sketching and fabric sourcing.
