At the Fashion Retail Academy, we offer a dynamic and hands-on learning experience for aspiring fashion designers. Here's how our Level 3 Fashion Design students are taking their first steps towards their careers, through masterclasses and real-world projects:
Year 1 Level 3 Fashion Design students recently attended an inspiring masterclass with Beata De Campos, Senior Creative at Vivienne Westwood. Having worked at the brand for 26 years, Beata shared her expertise on print design, her career journey, and the day-to-day responsibilities of a Senior Creative. She offered valuable portfolio advice and guidance for students' LUX project, where they design prints for a luxury brand.
Year 2 Level 3 Fashion Design students tackled a fast-paced challenge with Stella McCartney, creating three innovative tailoring styles in just 48 hours. They presented their work to designer Aissata Ibrahima, gaining practical feedback and a first-hand understanding of the pressures and rewards of working with a top fashion brand.
Year 2 Level 3 Fashion Design students also have a portfolio review masterclass with a Paul Smith womenswear designer coming up, helping them build connections, develop their portfolio and refine their professional skills further.
Designed for students aged 16 to 18, this fully-funded, two-year course covers every stage of garment creation - from initial idea to final piece. Students learn drawing, pattern-cutting and garment construction while exploring both the creative and technical sides of fashion design.
At the FRA, our curriculum blends creativity and technical expertise, preparing students for undergraduate study or entry to the industry. With real-world projects and access to leading brands, we provide students with the skills and experience needed to start a successful career.
I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for the FRA. The best decision I ever made was coming here! Cameron, Level 3 Fashion Design
At the FRA, we connect students with over 250 major brands, through industry enrichment schemes and mentorships. During your second year, you'll take part in the Level 3 Fashion Design Mentor Scheme. In a small group, you'll be assigned an industry mentor who can help guide your career planning and provide real-world insights, helping you build skills and confidence to succeed in the fashion world. You'll also have industry projects and visiting expert talks from brands like Sweaty Betty, ASOS and Diesel.
